The 185 entries were written for this catalog, one by one, not imported in bulk from another list. This page says where candidates come from, who we credit, and what belongs to whom.

How entries are written

Each entry was written for this catalog: the name, a one-line description in our own words, the link to the official documentation, a sample request and the rule for a healthy answer. It is then run through the verifier, and it is kept only if it passes. No description is copied from another directory.

The status, latency, CORS mark and stored response on every page are produced by our own verifier. They are measurements, with the date next to them.

New APIs are added by the maintainers after the same test, and a person approves each addition. There is no automatic submission form: an open form on a list like this fills with spam within days.

Lists we used to find candidates

The community lists below are where many developers, including us, first hear of an API. We used them to find candidates to test and we credit them here. They are published under the MIT licence, whose notice we reproduce.

What belongs to the API operators

The APIs themselves, their names, logos, documentation and the data they return belong to their operators. A stored response shown on an API page is a short excerpt of one answer, displayed so you can see the shape of the data before writing code. If you operate a listed API and want the entry changed or removed, ask the maintainers and it will be done.

The logo and the category icons were drawn for this site and contain no third-party marks. Fonts are Ubuntu Sans and Ubuntu Sans Mono, both under the Ubuntu Font Licence 1.0, served from this domain.
